Promoting Economic
Development All residents deserve a good paying job and a high quality of life. In Massachusetts, we must make our state a welcoming place to do business by encouraging economic development and job growth. A growing economy will bring more personal spending, lower unemployment, better paying jobs and an overall climate of prosperity. But it’s not all about better paying jobs, it’s also about bringing down housing prices so future employees can afford to live here with their families.
Expanding Biotechnology and Stem Cell Research in Massachusetts Senator Barrios supports encouraging the promising and emerging field of stem cell research. It’s becoming clearer and clearer that the medical advances resulting from this research are immense. Massachusetts has the resources to be a leader in stem cell research, with its outstanding medical community, institutions of higher learning, and some of the best private research facilities in the world. We must provide a welcoming environment for those institutions and business to grow so that they will continue to find it economically feasible and profitable to stay in Massachusetts. Senator Barrios will fully support stem cell research in both the public and private sector, not only to support a growing economy but also to conduct this life saving research.
According to MassInc, Massachusetts is the 3rd lead affordable state in which to buy a home. High housing prices are driving away future employees and job growth. By encouraging the construction of more affordable housing we can encourage job growth. Please visit the affordable housing issue page to learn more about what Senator Barrios is doing to bring down housing prices for our state’s hard working residents.
In 2005, Senator Barrios re-filed legislation establishing a Jobs Creation Commission. The commission, comprised of members from business, labor, state government and academia, will investigate and study issues related to the Massachusetts economy in order to acquire and maintain quality jobs in the Commonwealth.
