Legislators Join MassEquality in Opposing Governor's Request

Legislators Opposed to a Constitutional Amendment on Gay Marriage Will Join MassEquality to Speak Against Governor's Request for a Stay of May 17th and Highlight the Impact of Governor's Flip-Flop on Civil Unions in November Elections

State House -- Saying "he's on the road to breaking the laws of our state's Constitution," Legislators who have always opposed a constitutional amendment on gay marriage will join with leaders of MassEquality today at 2pm to harshly criticize Governor Romney's request for a stay of the November 2003 Goodridge decision. The stay request -- seen by many political and legal analysts as political posturing -- came at the heels of yet another Romney flip-flop on equal rights for gays and lesbian residents. During the waning hours of the Constitutional Conventional Governor Romney personally pressured many House Republicans to support the concept of civil unions included in the "compromise" amendment -- a flip-flop that deviates from his previous ardent opposition to civil unions and seriously compromises the Governor's effectiveness in the upcoming November elections.

WHAT: Legislators and MassEquality speak out against Governor Romney's request for a stay of the historic Goodridge decision.

WHEN: TODAY, Tuesday March 30th at 2pm

WHERE: Senate Reading Room, State House
