News Release
Salem Groups to Hold Forum on Environmental Pollution Facing Salem and Surrounding Communities (Salem, MA) A broad coalition of Salem's neighborhood groups and environmental organizations will hold an Environmental Justice Forum on Monday June 7th from 7-9 PM at the Salem Senior Center to explore how the city's industrial past has left families and residents with a legacy of polluted air, water and land. The event is open to the public and residents are encouraged to participate. Participants in the forum will discuss how they can prevent further environmental pollution, how communities from around the state are acting to clean up their air and water, and what citizens can do to support an Environmental Justice bill sponsored by Senator Jarrett Barrios. The bill would identify communities facing extreme air and water pollution, direct state agencies to crack down on polluters and pass tough new environmental safeguards. Low and moderate-income communities often bear the brunt of the state's pollution, leading to higher rates of asthma, lead poisoning, cancer and illnesses. What: Community forum to discuss environmental issues affecting the City of Salem. Who:
When: Monday June 7th Time: 7:00 - 9:00 pm Where: Salem Senior Center, 5 Broad Street ### |
