KRYSTYL POIRIER TO BE HONORED AT DEDICATION CEREMONY

A dedication ceremony honoring the memory of Krystyl Poirier will take place tomorrow in Everett. A portion of the Route 16 ramp, from Santilli Circle to the General Sweetzer Circle, will be known as the “Krystyl K Memorial Way.”

Krystyl was a 16 year old Everett High School student who tragically lost her life to a drunk driver on Saturday, April 8, 2006. Joe Poirier, Krystyl’s brother originated the idea to rename the section of Route 16. Joe brought the petition to the Everett City Council after a thousand people signed the petition. State Senator Jarrett Barrios introduced an amendment to the budget last year to rename the portion of Route 16 to honor Krystyl. The amendment passed the House and Senate and was later signed by the Governor.

This ceremony comes on the heels of the one year anniversary of the signing of “Melanie’s Bill. A piece of legislation which strengthened drunk driving laws in the Commonwealth.

There will be a light collation immediately following the ceremony. In case of inclement weather, the collation will take place at Everett City Hall, 484 Broadway, in the Kevarian Room.
