SENATOR BARRIOS HOSTS MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS DAY

Speakers to Include Lt. Governor and Secretary O’Connell

Tomorrow, State Senator Jarrett Barrios will host a legislative briefing for all elected officials in his district.  Municipal Officials Day is an opportunity for local officials to not only to learn about issues before the legislature, but to ask questions and make comments to high ranking state officials about matters affecting their cities and towns.

Headlining this year’s festivities will be Lieutenant Governor, Timothy Murray, who will talk about Governor Patrick’s local initiatives proposals.  Other speakers include, Undersecretary of Homeland Security, Juliette Kayyem, and Secretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development, Daniel O’Connell who will speak about some of their respective agencies priorities for the next four years.

“This is a unique opportunity for local officials to meet the Lieutenant Governor and key members of Governor Patrick’s cabinet and hear first-hand several of their proposals which will affect every community in the Commonwealth,” stated Senator Barrios.

Municipal Officials Day will consist of several panels, each with multiple panelists, and cover a variety of topics.  Issues including how towns can apply for public safety grants, state sponsored smart growth programs, and dealing with bullying in schools are some of the scheduled topics.   Other panelists include officials from various state agencies and experts from the field of education.
